WHAT TO DO AT YOUR FIRST EVENTS.
Joining BASOC
Club membership is free but you also have to join the Scottish Orienteering Association (SOA), which costs £3, and the
British Orienteering Federation (BOF). If you intend to enter only local events, BOF Local Membership is free.
What do beginners need to bring to an orienteering session?
Wear: comfortable clothes and trainers that can stand getting wet and muddy! Avoid jeans if possible. Leggings such as Ron
Hill Tracksters are ideal. You will also need 2 warm tops and a waterproof and windproof jacket.
You should also bring dry
shoes, socks and trousers to change into at the end of the session.
Bring: A compass if you have one and a non-fizzy drink. The appropriate
course entry fee.
