Callum presented a memento of the club to Mike and Norma Atherton and thanked them for all of their hard work for the club. He reminded us that they were part of the small group who set up the club in 2000 and he wished them well for the future. They will remain club members in the first instance.
In the 2008 season the 11-person relay at Loch Vaa was the club’s major event and was a success for our club. Mike Atherton was the Planner and Marion MacCormick the Organiser and many other BASOC members played leading roles in making the day a particular success. The event in the previous year had not been especially successful and as a club we intended to bring some life back to the 11-person relay. This was done thanks to the superior venue, the good planning and to the siting of the Assembly area in a compact arena where everyone could be aware of what was happening. Marion will pass on all relevant information to the organisers of the event in 2009
The Middle distance event (Planner Callum Scott, Organiser Marion MacCormick) was held this year at Deisher and brought out 65 runners. It was part of a weekend of events run by BASOC and the Beachen Wood event (Planner Andy Hyslop, Organiser Norma Atherton) the following day also benefited from the two-day pattern with about 100 runners. However there is a feeling that our club struggles to put on two-day events due to the shortage of club members. The other main event was at Inshriach South (Planner Peter Lamb, Organiser Libby Lamb) and was run in conjunction with the Junior Inter Area individual event. It also saw a large turnout once again of over 100 runners.
BASOC was once again represented at the Jamie Stevenson Trophy event.
In 2009 the north area clubs will host the Scottish Championships 24-25 May 2009 and we will have to be involved here too. Norma will continue to act as Coordinator for this event and Mike is Planner for the individual day and Marion Organiser for the Relays.
Callum suggested that evening events should be targeted as we did not have good numbers at many of these this year apart from one which preceded the Highland schools’ championships. In 2009 he suggests that there is more close links with the schools to select particular dates.
He also drew attention to the success of the Quiz O format set up by Allan Goodall.
2008 was again a successful year for the club with the following successes:
Adrian Hope 1st M80
SOL 2008.
Top 3 places went to Adrian Hope 1st M 75L Marion MacCormick 1st W60L Hilary Scott 1st W55S
Norma Atherton 2nd W60 S Mike Atherton 3rd M 65L,

Callum offered congratulatons to all these members.
Callum presented this trophy to Neil Convery in particular for his performance at the Jamie Stevenson Trophy competition.
After the run which preceded the AGM Mike Atherton was declared Senior Club Champion

Allan reported on this project. The maps have been selling well particularly in Nethybridge. Now he intends to find other outlets for the maps in both Grantown and Kingussie. Ewan McCarthy proposed hotels as an outlet for these maps. He also suggested that we should run events to combine street and forest O to raise the profile of the sport in our towns and villages. Ewan also suggested that any junior doing well at a major event should be offered free family membership for a year to attract families to the club.
A draft map for Ellan Wood is now ready but after discussion there was some doubt as to whether the club should pursue the permanent course there due to the level of bureaucracy involved. This will be considered by the committee.
