About Us

BASOC was formed in June 2000 to promote the sport of orienteering in the Badenoch & Strathspey area. The club’s area was enlarged in 2003 when we merged with LOCHOC, the Lochaber club, and we now have members in various far-flung parts of the northwest of Scotland.
Between the National Orienteering Centre and BASOC, we have some of the best terrain in the UK. Our priority is small, local events and activities to encourage friendly participation and to help everyone learn and enjoy the sport at their own level.
New members are always welcome at any age and at any level.
BASOC has also worked with the local community in various ways. We have produced orienteering maps of every primary and secondary school in our area.
Our orienteering maps include some for the villages of Kincraig, Kingussie, Nethy Bridge and Grantown-on-Spey.
