BASOC member’s OMM success

Congratulations to BASOC member Gavin Miles for winning the Long Score class at the OMM, with his partner Gary Tompsett.  For those not familiar with this particular little weekend of fun, the letters stand for the Original Mountain Marathon;  a Mountain Marathon is like a huge great orienteering event of crazy proportions and lasting 2 days with a remote overnight camp (you carry all your kit, naturally).

The OMM always takes place on the weekend when the clocks go back just to make sure you have as long as possible in the discomfort of your tent, and the event organisers usually arrange for some particularly foul weather as well.  (The first year I did it, I had to approach my first control on all fours, it was too windy to stand up!)  Simply completing the event is an achievement in itself;  to win is most impressive, so well done Gavin.
