More BASOC league success!

Huge congratulations to Callum Scott on his first ever league victory!  At SOL6 on Sunday 25th September Callum had an almost faultless run on the Blue course to take a stonking 10 minute lead in the M55L category, showing the effect of regular orienteering plus a weekly hill run.

Ewan McCarthy also had a win on the Black course, and it was good to see Caroline and Bill McCarthy back in action as well.

Alistair Johnson, competing in only his second league event, had the misfortune of being given the wrong map (for the non-existent Long Orange!), so he ran nearly twice as far as he should have done, did 3 extra controls and had a LOT of additional climb, and STILL won the M14B category.  He also achieved the fastest sprint from the last control, squeezing in one second ahead of Alex Campbell, previously unchallenged as BASOC Fast Man.  Alex was unavailable for comment about his run, but from no.1 to no.2 he clocked the fastest time of anyone on the Short Brown course (no mean feat!) but then it seemed to fall apart...

Marion MacCormick's battle with arch-rival Eleanor Pyrah continued, with Marion finishing the Short Green course just 30 seconds behind Eleanor.

Hilary Q consolidated her overall lead in W55L with another victory, while Hilary Scott appeared to have her mind on other things and did a 20 minute walk-about somewhere near no.9.

The final league event of 2011 is at Barry Buddon, near Carnoustie, on 23rd October;  we will try to share transport.  Meanwhile we wish Hilary and Callum S all the very best for their trip to New Zealand, and we look forward to their return in December.
