Loch Vaa, 31st May 2011

One of our best areas. Not to be missed.  Unless of course you're affected by the WOC2015 embargo (see BOF website) in which case please don't come!

Seriously:  this event is being held on an area covered by the embargo for WOC2015.  Details of who must not orienteer here are at:

www.scottish-orienteering.org/soa/page/woc-2015-embargoed-areas/

Names of all participants will be kept and scrutinised.

Results now available, sorry for the delay!

Loch Vaa

The northern section of the map is well thinned scotch pine plantation while the southern section around the loch has some mature scotch pine forest and birch wood. The birch wood south of the loch has excellent moraine contour detail with lots of negative features and is excellent for training. There is a large area of open heather moor to the east of the railway line. This has good contour detail but the heather is slow going at the moment. There are some sections of birch wood which are more runnable. The area is easily accessible from the end of Kinkurdy Road in Boat of Garten or from the carpark at Lagan na Gower Cemetery a few miles north of Aviemore on the A95.
