COACHING - SPRING 2008

Coaching has now begun for the year.  Don't forget that to really get the hang of the sport you should go to as many events as you can (see below for a list).  The club tent will be at the British Championships in Culbin Forest in mid April and also at the Scottish Championships on Tayside at the end of May, so you will be able to meet other club members and discuss your run
afterwards.

The sessions during the Easter holidays on 30 March and 5 April will also be offered to newcomer families via adverts in the Strathy.  We hope to be recruiting some new members to the Junior Coaching programme.  Why not invite your friends to come along with their parents?

WHAT TO DO AT YOUR FIRST EVENTS.

Teachers/parents
Contact Norma Atherton (01540 661069) if you need further information.
If you ask to be put on the coaching email list, you will receive regular information. Otherwise ring and give your postal address to receive printed information.  Exercises and maps have to be prepared in advance of each session.  If possible, could you please let Norma know about 3 days in advance if your children are coming.

Coaching sessions are free. If juniors have attended 2 BASOC sessions and wish to continue, we ask them to join the club. Club membership is free but you also have to join the Scottish Orienteering Association (SOA), which costs £3, and the British Orienteering Federation (BOF).  If you intend to enter only local events,  BOF Local Membership is free but if you want to run in the British Championships in Culbin, then you would need to become a BOF National Member and pay an extra £3.85.

Wear: comfortable clothes and trainers that can stand getting wet and muddy!  Avoid jeans if possible.  Leggings such as Ron Hill Tracksters are ideal.  You will also need 2 warm tops and a waterproof and windproof jacket.  You should also bring dry shoes, socks and trousers to change into at the end of the session.

Bring: A compass if you have one (we will supply the usual clip-on compasses); if possible, the thick plastic map bag you were given last time; a non-fizzy drink.
