We are lucky that there are several Scottish Orienteering
League (SOL) events within reasonable travelling distance this year.
At SOL events you
can test yourself against runners from all over Scotland. If you are a junior and have got your eye on
trying to make the Scottish Junior Orienteering Squad you need to go to some
SOLs to get experience of higher level competition and to get some good
results. All who compete in 4 SOLs in
the year get a result in the League for your age class – who knows, you might
win!
To enter a SOL you need to get a Standard Entry Form by
downloading from the BOF website – http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/forms/sef1.doc
- and send the form and fee to the address
given in SCORE, the SOA magazine.
There is always a closing date for entries given
which you should try to meet. Cost is usually £11 seniors and £4
juniors, £2 discount for senior national BOF members and senior local BOF members.
Limited entry on the day (add extra £1/50p) for age class courses. Free string
course.
There will be electronic punching, usually using SI. If you don't have SI you
can hire for an extra 50p each.
Dogs will be allowed on a lead in the car park only. There will be entry on the day for colour-coded courses (usually
White, Yellow, Orange, Light Green and Red.
For junior classes
you enter the class appropriate to your technical level. Girls enter as JW and boys as JM. See below.

usually divided into a Short (S) class and a Long (L) class for each age group. Short courses are about two-thirds the
length of Long courses but are of the same high technical standard (Level 5).
