What, when, where of Orienteering with BASOC
It can be hard finding out what is happening for orienteering - here is something to help you with this.
How to interpret them
The IOF (International Orienteering Federation) have recently released the latest version of control descriptions.
Do you know what all those symbols mean? Can you differentiate between the 'north western knoll on the east side' from the 'eastern knoll on the north west side'?
Download the full 32 page PDF to discover more control locations than you ever thought could exist.
Run wild in the woods
Over the winter months this is in the dark, so you need a torch*. We go out orienteering, usually with a navigational focus. Call it training or just playing, it’s as hard as you want it to be, both physically and technically!
Newcomers are welcome and there is always someone to explain things and help you get started.
*We have three 1000 lumen headtorches for use by club members at Tuesday night O. Particularly aimed at relative newcomers - these will get you on a level playing field with the pros!
Meet at 6:30 prompt. Please come appropriately dressed for the weather on the night, the sort of thing you would wear if you were going for a trail run.
You need to be back by 7:30pm.
£2 Adults, £1 Juniors for BASOC or other orienteering club members.
£3 Adults, £1.50 Juniors for non members.
The perfect way to start orienteering. Come along to our family introduction to orienteering sessions and be coached by Mehmet Karatay, one of our club coaches, in the essentials of orienteering. The sessions run alongside our usual Tuesday training, so you'll get to meet the rest of us too!
A bit of information about our new look Tuesdays. The first month will be based from Boat of Garten hall and the orienteering focus is, 'aiming off'.
BASOC spring training weekend.
Location - Stirling area
Training on Saturday with local club +/- others.
Race on Sunday - Compassport Cup club competition at Dumyat (hill just above Stirling uni) - let's beat our result from last year! A good fun event with a full range of colour coded courses.
Run wild in the woods
Tuesday=O, so we go out and do some orienteering. Call it training or just playing, it’s as hard as you want it to be, both physically and technically, and now it's in the dark!
So dig out that headtorch and give it a go.
An invitation from Johannes
I am aiming to complete my Level 2 Orienteering Coach qualification by offering a block of 6 progressive coached night orienteering sessions. These will run alongside normal Tue = O from 6th October to 10th November. There are only 6 spaces available. You'll just pay the usual Tue=O charge (or your Bulk Payment option).
This autumn we are going to be running a BASOC junior club. This is aimed at juniors (under 20’s) who have done some orienteering already (mostly at our events over the last year or so), but do get in touch if you’re a beginner and would like to come along!
Tuesdays 6:30 - 7:30pm - bookings for May now open
For the second year running we are pleased to offer our four-week blocks of coaching aimed specifically at parents who'd like to learn together with their children.
