Coaching Foundation Course

Team BASOC, Source:

The Coaching Foundation course is ideal for anyone aged 16 or over who wants to know how to help newcomers to the sport. We're running it on 4 Tuesday evenings starting 29 May, at no cost to BASOC members.

01st May 18

Anyone who has been orienteering for at least a few months is well placed to help others into the sport, and in the process you'll learn a lot that will improve your own orienteering!

The course will be held at Kincraig on Tuesday evenings 29 May and 5, 12 & 19 June. To book your place simply talk to Hilary Q or send an email.

Although the Coaching Foundation is not a formal qualification (no assessment is involved), it is a useful stand-alone course in itself, or can be the first step on the way to a coaching qualification.

If you'd like to be able to help out a bit on Tuesday evenings, this is the ideal way to start!

Brief outline of the course:

  • Week 1: orienteering skills, how they're structured and how we progress with them; also the HOW and the WHAT to coach
  • Week 2: session planning - why, what, how.....
  • Week 3:  practical delivery of short sessions
  • Week 4:  reviewing and improving things
