Explanation of event levels
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive events used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships.
Pre-event Information
This Event Safety and Welfare (ESW) workshop is aimed at all who orienteer - whether you are a competitor, an event official (planner or organiser) or helper or you just come along to Tuesday=O training sessions. It is a suitable refresher for those who have attended the course before - there are some new materials!
The Event Organiser workshop is to let you find out a bit more about what is involved with organising a local or regional event.

Directions / Parking
Location is Carrbrdge Village Hall.
Park in the car park in Carrbridge and walk 100m south on the pavement to the Village Hall.
Map / Terrain
Ellan Wood will be used for a practical element; we will stay on the paths for this.
Registration and Start times
The Event Safety and Welfare workshop will start at 10am and finish by 1pm. The Event Organiser workshop will run from 1pm to 4pm.
Course Information
The workshops will be interactive, with a some preparation (about 30 minutes) required beforehand.
The preparation exercise will be sent out on Wednesday 3rd January 2024.
There will be a practical outdoor element, come prepared for all types of weather!
Bring along pen & paper.
The course will be led by Lynne Walker using materials developed by Scottish Orienteering.
Entry Details
The workshop is free to BASOC members; cost for others is £3 per person per workshop towards to hire of the hall for the workshop.

Delegates are welcome to bring a sandwich with them; tea & coffee will be provided. You can also heat food up in the kitchen. Bringing any cake to share will also be appreciated!
Safety Notes
You should not attend the workshop if you are showing any symptoms of Covid 19. The workshop will be managed to take account of Scottish Government & SOA guidelines.
