Membership - Options and Fees 2024
1. Scottish membership
Most new orienteers take out Scottish membership, which includes membership of BASOC and Scottish Orienteering (SOA).
This option is best suited to those who only wish to orienteer locally and within Scotland. There are some limitations on entering some larger competitions and taking on coaching and official roles.
For Scottish membership, please join via the Scottish Orienteering website: www.scottish-orienteering.org/membership/membership
If joining the Scottish Orienteering Association (SOA) and you are willing and eligible to do so please claim gift aid. The SOA is a charity and can claim gift aid tax relief on the SOA part of your annual membership fees. Even better, the SOA has agreed to return this money to clubs for a minimum of 3 years, and potentially longer. Gift aid can only be claimed through completion of a gift aid form by each member. You can do this online with SOA. The process is so easily, takes a few minutes to complete and you receive a nice thank you email from SOA once done. Just follow this link
At a later stage, you can easily upgrade to British membership .
2. British membership
This includes membership of BASOC, Scottish Orienteering, and British Orienteering (BOF).
This option is best suited to those who want to take part in orienteering events across Scotland, the UK, and potentially internationally. You can take on any club, event official or coaching role.
Membership and Renewals are administered by British Orienteering on our behalf. The SOA and BOF fees are set by Scottish Orienteering and British Orienteering respectively. BASOC sets the club fees.
For British membership, please join via the British Orienteering website: www.britishorienteering.org.uk/join
3. Second club membership
If you are already a member of an orienteering club (based anywhere in the UK, and whether that is an Open or a Closed club), you are more than welcome to join BASOC as well with second club membership for just the club membership fee (Senior £5, Young Adult £3, Junior £0, Family £10). All of the BASOC activities and updates are available to our second club members in the same way as to our other members. If you are interested in this option, please contact Jane our Membership Secretary.
