Reports from BASOC members at events, events which are coming up, Tuesday=O and many other things happening!
1. BASOC at events this summer
Many BASOC members have been to events this summer. Their reports on their experiences have been collated into an article on the BASOC website. Does this encourage you to think of planning a trip next year?
2. Tuesday=O August
We are heading for Kingussie and the surrounding area in August. All details will be published on the Tuesday=O part of the website.
- 6th August: MapRun in the urban part of Kingussie
- 13th August: playing with contours, Glen Gynack West
- 20th August: planning legs on a course, Glen Gynack East
- 27th August: Score – with a twist, Glen Gynack East. Thanks to Pat & Ray for doing the Meet & Greet for this. Weather permitting the training will be followed by a bar-be-que hosted by Pat & Ray.
3. Tuesday=O September
Many thanks to Janette taking this on, probably at Craigellachie, Aviemore. Keep an eye on the Tuesday=O part of the website for details.
4. Want to become an even better orienteer?

5. BASOC Board minutes
The Board met on 22nd July 2024 and the minutes will be on the website soon.
6. Keeping in touch
Have you taken any action after this was in the July eNews? As a reminder:

- BASOC on social media - BASOC is on Facebook (search for Badenoch and Strathspey Orienteering Club, there is also a Facebook button on the BASOC Home page) and Instagram (#badenochandstrathspeyorienteering) so please follow us and join in.
- BASOC also has a WhatsApp group - if you are interested and would like to be added please contact the Chair. The WhatsApp group is an addition and will not replace the newsletter or other communication channels.
- If any club members want to get more involved in club communications please do get in touch with the Chair.
- And of course just speak to anyone (often seen wearing BASOC clothing) at training or an event - or contact a Board member.
7. BASOC SOL Sunday 27th October 2024
The planning for this event at Alvie is coming along well. Entries will open on Sunday 1st September. Watch the BASOC website and social media for more updates. We will be starting to contact volunteers to support with the delivery on the day.
8. Other events coming up
- Friday 23rd August: final NUL (Lochardil), INVOC
- Saturday 7th September: SOL4 (Lochearnhead / Edinchip), FVO
- Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September: 2 x SOUL weekend (Nairn & Burghead), INVOC and MOR
9. Local MTBO
There are informal quality events coming up (maybe have a go with at least one of these instead of a Parkrun one Saturday?). A Long course and a Short course are available. You can use a mountain bike, an e-mountain bike or a gravel bike (maybe not a gravel bike at all events, check the event information). All ages welcome. Helmets & bells are mandatory. The events are low key and very social.
- Quarry Wood Elgin 10th August, entries close on 8th August.
- Tornagrain, 17th August, entries close on 17th August
- Sluie, Forres, 31st August, entries close 29th August
All events start 10-10.30am.
Cost: £5 adult, £3 junior

Provisional date and location for September is Saturday 14th September at Carse (Ardersier).
Also World Masters MTBO has changed dates from June 2026 to 1st to 5th September 2026 (environmental reasons!).
10. Scottish Orienteering items
- The Scottish Orienteering Association are hosting a club networking day on Saturday 14th September in Perth as a chance to get together with people from other clubs to discuss hot topics and share good practice. Open to all. More information on the Scottish Orienteering website.
- Scottish Orienteering are running courses in September and November on coaching, planning, and organising. All the details are under Development – Training Calendar. If you are interested in discussing more about these options for getting more involved in orienteering then please contact Lynne.
11. BASOC Club Champs 2024 – save the date!
We are planning the club champs for Sunday 1st December. There will be some orienteering suitable for all and designed to give everyone a chance to be club champ. This will be followed by a social event.
