BASOC training moves to Wednesdays for April and May. JK and British Champs reports. Scottish Champs, initial details.

1. BASOC Wednesday=O

Wednesday=O will be happening during April and May. Training starts off on Wednesday 17th April at Heathfield, Grantown on Spey.

All the details for April and May are on the BASOC website.

Many thanks to Callum for organising all of these sessions.

2. BASOC at the JK

How did BASOC members get on at the JK over Easter weekend and the British Individual and Relay Champs which took place near Whitby over the past weekend?

Pat has written about her experience at the JK - it seems like there was a bit of mud! Below is a copy of the report from Facebook.

Well done to our wandering wolves who took on the JK Orienteering Festival down in the Midlands over the Easter weekend - it looked like muddy, wet fun! Two mother daughter combos were in action with Pat running in the W70 and Orange courses and Rebecca a very respectable 13th on the W40. Clare and Alice were also highly competitive in their age categories with Clare finishing the weekend with a 7th place on the long course to take 11th spot overall in W55 and Alice 7th overall in W20 Elite with consistent runs through the Sprint, Middle and Long days. Janette and Stephen also had strong performances. Stephen was 27th overall in the M65L category which had a whopping 92 competitors! And Janette took a very respectable 13th in a fiercely competitive W45L. Now rest up as we have the British Championships in just over a week!

3. BASOC at the British Champs (individual and relay)

Congratulations - the W40 relay team if Rebecca, (Purple) Jane and Janette came third (by a close margin from 4th who were 24 seconds behind)!

Janette has written a report about the weekend.

4. Scottish Orienteering Champs weekend

The Scottish Champs Weekend (25th & 26th May) is very close-by this year, being hosted by our neighbours INVOC and Moravian so it’s a great opportunity to get the whole club out with lots of us howling each other down the run-in!

BASOC are 'running' the Start on the Individual day. There are at least 10 helpers required for this so that everyone is able to have a run as well as help. Lynne is happy to mentor someone who would like to take the role of Start team leader. This will be good practice for the BASOC SOL at the end of October. Please let Lynne know if you are interested in having a go at this.

The individual day on the Saturday at Craig Dunain & Craig Leach has a course for everyone from those wanting to compete for the medals to those just starting out. There are long and short courses for each age-group as well as colour coded courses which can offer a less technical or shorter option. Please don’t be put off by the “Championship” element to the weekend - it would be lovely to see everyone there and if you have any questions about which course you should enter just ask.

On the Sunday there will be relay teams taking on the fantastic terrain of Roseisle with its beautiful and intricate sand dunes. Entries for relay are organised by the Club Captain (Jane) so please can you fill out the this Google form to indicate which course length you would want to run. All adult courses are TD5 and there are junior options depending on age. For course length (ratios) details, have a look at the Scottish Relay Champs Rules and Guidelines on pages 3 and 4. BASOC will pay for the relay entry.

Entries for Individual day are on SIEntries.
More information on the area for Relay day is on the MOR website.

5. Coaching Foundation Course

The next Coaching Foundation Course has been rescheduled for week beginning 27th May with three online and one club based practical over 5 weeks - BASOC will support you for this practical. If you are orienteering at TD3 or above and would love to help your club out by supporting the coaches to bring new people into the sport, this is the ideal opportunity for you to get involved. More detail and sign up on the registration form or look on the SOA training calendar. Although it states on the page that applications closed on 1st April, they have been reopened until early May.
