BASOC eNews July 2020

Published: Sat 18 Jul 2020

It has been a relatively quiet time since the last eNews - this is all about to change with the recently issued guidelines. Yes we can orienteer in our local forest areas, albeit a small group at a time.

1. Tuesday=O is back!

For 4 months, some of BASOC have met 'virtually' courtesy of Zoom. It is now possible to be back out in the forest orienteering. Hilary Q. has written clear guidelines for this. Please ensure that you read these carefully and adhere to them.
This situation could change so please keep up to date with posts on the BASOC website and social media platforms.
Many thanks to Hilary Q. for getting this started and for issuing the clear guidelines.

2. Scottish Orienteering Guidelines.

You also have a responsibility to familiarise yourself with the Guidelines issued by Scottish Orienteering.

3. BASOC Committee Meeting Minutes.

The Committee met via Zoom on 29th June 2020 and the minutes from the meeting are available from the website. There are various items of interest to all club members, for example

4. Junior Training Camps cancelled.

Alice (Kemsley) was selected for the Talent Squad summer camp; this is now cancelled and it is hoped that there will be the opportunity to attend training weekend/s in the autumn.

Izzy (Cox) was selected for the JROS Summer training camp for M/W 18?20s in Gothenburg; this camp was cancelled almost as soon as selections were made due to the current government advice against all but essential travel to Sweden.

Still, well done in your selection Izzy & Alice; keep on orienteering and working on your skills as your opportunity will come again.

At the time of writing, it looks as if there is a chance that JWOC and EYOC might take place in October. The decision will be taken by the IOF on 10th August 2020.

Fingers crossed that there is more news for BASOC eNews in August 2020.
