1. Scottish Champs weekend

BASOC had 17 members taking part in the Scottish Individual Championships at Craig Leach - as well as running the two starts. There were also 4 relay teams the following day at Roseisle. A report about the weekend with photos is on the BASOC website.

2. Northern Urban League (NUL)

NUL1 (results) was held at Grantown West on Wednesday 29th May in the evening. There were 26 competitors on the Long course with 10 taking on the Short course. The rain mainly stayed away, but the midges did not. Many thanks to Callum for planning and organising.

The rest of the series is detailed below - remember to pre-enter as there are very few 'entry at the event' available.

3. Tuesday=O

Clare is taking us to Loch Vaa SE for contour work on Tuesday 4th and 11th June. All the details are on the BASOC website.

There is no training on Tuesday 18th June as there is a NUL at Forres on the Wednesday evening.

Jane is holding a MTBO at Nethy Bridge on Tuesday 25th June; this was great fun last year. Come along with your bike or do the courses by foot.

In July, Tuesday=O will be mainly on a 'self-help' basis at Loch Vaa SE. Details will be on the BASOC website by late June.

Remember there is a charge for the training sessions. Please either bring cash along on the day or pay by BACS (with the reference TUESDAYO). Have you paid for the sessions you came along to in the Spring?

4. BASOC Board meeting

The BASOC Board met on 13th May. Minutes are available on the website.

5. BASOC SOL, 27th October 2024, Alvie

A message from Jo about the SOL (Scottish Orienteering League): BASOC is planning and organising the final SOL of 2024 at Alvie Estate, just south of Aviemore, on Sunday October 27th. It will be a great opportunity to run on a map that has not been used for an event since 2014.

On Saturday 26th October INVOC has an event at Keppernach near Cawdor so you can make it a weekend of O.

Please put the SOL in your diary as we will need as many club members as possible to help on the day.

6. BASOC Calendar

The BASOC Orienteering Calendar has been updated. Anyone want to volunteer (with support) to do any Tuesday=O in September and October? Please do get in touch with Lynne with any ideas and offers.

7. Ticks

Many of us came home from the Scottish Individual Champs with a huge load of ticks, especially the very small almost invisible ones. The vegetation in the west start area must have been heaving with them.

Mountaineering Scotland have updated their advice about ticks - and there is a short video on the site as well.

The very small ones are impossible to remove with most 'tick removing tools'. I have been advised to get a small bit of sellotape and use that as they adhere to the sticky surface. Anyone got any other advice?

Make sure that you cover your legs & ankles (do you have a gap between them, if so it is an ideal place for ticks to get in) and use insect repellant on clothing in this area.
