Events - past and future, BASOC kit and a couple of items from Scottish Orienteering.

1. Tuesday=O

Tuesday=O for 12th, 19th and 26th March will take place in the Aviemore area. There will be a mix of training exercises on the Spey Valley Golf Course and urban courses using MapRun in the town. Many thanks to Janette for these sessions.

There will be no orienteering training on 2nd and 9th April, although Aviemore N and Aviemore S MapRun can be done until 13th April.

We then change to Wednesday=O from 17th April through to 29th May inclusive.

2. BASOC at O events

As well as a really good club turn out at the CompassSport Cup / Trophy, BASOC members have been taking part in various events.

From the BASOC Chair "Good luck to all taking part. Event reports and photos will be shared in upcoming newsletters."

3. BASOC events in 2024

At the moment BASOC have 2 events on the calendar – put these dates in your diary!

4. Events to go to

Masterplan Adventure are holding a weekend of orienteering (Middle, Ultra-Sprint, Long which is SOL#1) near Tarbert, Argyll – Scottish Spring. This takes place on 16th & 17th March with entries closing this Sunday 10th March. They are using the Pre-entries system for this.

Sunday 21st April: SOL#2 at Balfour Forest, Deeside: MAROC

Remember that you can see all upcoming events on the Scottish Orienteering fixtures calendar. The link takes you to the March calendar and you can navigate to future months from there.

5. BASOC Club kit

Jane “Purple Jane” Chisholm – as club kit person – wants us all to wear more purple! Note the date for orders is 22nd March.

Do you have enough purple in your life? No. Probably not. So here’s your chance to add to your purple wardrobe and accessories.

I am looking to sort out both casual and technical kit orders. Anyone who would like to order please fill in the following forms:

Casual Kit details and form.

Technical Kit details and form.

Please complete your orders by March 22nd at the latest, but the earlier the better, so I can get them processed. I have a small selection in stock and the casual kit should arrive fairly quickly from our local supplier. The technical kit takes around 8 weeks and has a minimum order so will depend on enough people placing an order.

If there is anything you would like BASOC branded which isn’t listed let me know and I’ll see if it can be done!

6. BASOC Board meeting

The BASOC Board met on Thursday 7th March. The minutes of the meeting will soon be on the BASOC website. The Board discussed planning for upcoming events, mapping updates, and communications with club members. If there are any members who are interested in support BASOC social media messaging please get in touch with any Board member.
