BASOC SOL at the end of October, other events to go to, Scottish Orienteering courses to do, who has been up to what and much more.
1. BASOC SOL Sunday 27th October at Alvie
The up to date information about the event is on the BASOC website. Check here regularly as information is being updated as we get closer to the event.
Have you entered this event? All helpers should be able to help and run. Entries close on Sunday 20th October via SIEntries. It is a great opportunity to participate in a big event in our local area.
Jo & Janette will be in touch shortly regarding helper duties, timing etc. We are also still looking for a few volunteers to help out. Mostly with car-parking so from 1000-1230 if you know of anyone that would be happy to help.
2. Tuesday=O for rest of October
All details about Tuesday=O for October are on the BASOC website.
Tuesday=O 29th Oct - MapRun Score in Grantown and 'social' at the Grantown Diner; please let Lynne know if you are coming so I can inform the Diner and book tables.
November Tuesday=O will be on 5th & 12th November. Details will be on the BASOC website by the start of November.
3. Northern Night Cup (NNC) #1 Church Wood, Grantown 20th November
Jez is planning with Lynne organising / controlling / mentoring.
Church Wood is an ideal area for the first NNC with a detailed path network and roads at the edges of the map.
The information on the website will be added to when it is known so please check there every so often.
BASOC have booked the Wheatley Hall (beside the Episcopal Church) for Registration, Download, Soup and Social.
The other events in the NNC series will be listed when known.
4. Results
The 5th & 6th October was a busy weekend for some BASOC.
Well done to Rebecca and Rob who were running for Team Scotland at the Veteran Home Internationals in Northern Ireland. In the Individual competition, Rebecca came second W40 while Rob was 3rd in M70 (beaten by 34 seconds!). In the Relay, Rob’s team was 9th while Rebecca’s was 7th. Overall, Scotland was second to England in the competition.
On the Saturday Janette ran the G2E (Glasgow to Edinburgh) Ultra, completing the 57 miles in 11hrs 20mins! Wow!
Jez headed across the border to run the Kielder Marathon – this is an undulating marathon on trails around the reservoir. He was running for just over 4 hours.
5. Diary date
The weekend of the 30th November / 1st December there will be lots going on. On Saturday there are training opportunities at Loch Vaa organised by FVO. On the 1st December we will have our annual club competition at Nethybridge.
There will be more details in the next eNews (out at the start of November) and on the website.
6. Local events from INVOC and MOR coming up
Saturday 19th October: Darnaway North Local event: MOR: entry fee rises on 17th October after which entries are subject to map availability.
Saturday 26th October: Keppernach Regional event: INVOC: entries close Sunday 20th October at 23:00
7. SOA courses
- SOA Organiser / Event Safety workshop, Grantown, 2nd November 2024
- Getting started in planning, online, starts 11th Nov (pre-workshop online for Condes / Purple Pen on 4th Nov)
