BASOC eNews September 2024
Events coming up including the BASOC SOL at the end of October as well as Tuesday=O is almost DarkO, remember your head torch!
1. BASOC SOL5 27th October
Planning and preparations for SOL 5 at Alvie Estate are going well. Watch out for further event details. We are looking for volunteers to support this event. If we have not contacted you please get in touch with us if you can help. There are plenty of roles where you can help and run.
Entries open on Wednesday 18th September.
2. Tuesday=O
It is starting to get darker so worthwhile taking a head torch along for the rest of September (it helps with reading the map!).
- 17th & 24th September: Craigellachie, Aviemore plus an Aviemore S MapRun. Thanks Janette.
October: yes, definitely have a fully charged head torch with you for October!
- 1st & 8th October: North Granish: near Avielochan, thanks to Clare for Meet & Greet, putting out and arranging collection.
- 15th & 22nd October: Dunachton at Kincraig: thanks to Rebecca & Clare for putting out and doing the Meet & Greet.
- 29th October: Grantown West MapRun & Social.
3. Other local events coming up
- Saturday 14th September: MTBO at Carse, near Ardersier; entries close 12th Sept. A new map of a new area to MTBO. 2 courses available. For further details and entry see the BMBO website.
- Saturday 21st September: SOUL 7 at Nairn, hosted by INVOC.; entries close 17th Sept.
- Sunday 22nd September: SOUL 8 at Burghead, hosted by MOR; entries close 18th Sept.
- Saturday 28th September: MTBO at Nairn; entries close 26th Sept.
The MTBO events are low key, social and good fun! The Nairn one will have a very easy course (biking-wise) so why not give it a go?
Both MOR and INVOC have events in October, keep an eye on their websites for details.
4. Updated BASOC calendar
The latest version is now available.
5. NNC (Northern Night Cup)
This series starts in November with a BASOC event at Church Wood (Grantown) on Wednesday 20th November. Details regarding the rest of the series will come out in October.
6. NUL - final standings
Congratulations to (Purple) Jane who came second lady in the Long course and to Rhona who came second on Short. We hope you enjoyed the chocolates!
7. Board meeting minutes
The Board met on 26th August. The minutes are now available.
8. VHI, Northern Ireland, 5th & 6th October
Rebecca (W40) & Rob (M70) are travelling to this, representing Scotland – good luck & enjoy!
9. Courses for volunteering and coaching
Scottish Orienteering have a calendar of courses and BASOC members have signed up for some:
- This Saturday is club networking day for Janette in Perth.
- Jane and Janette are doing a Grade C controllers on Sunday.
- Rebecca is starting a Coaching Foundation course next week.
