2. Tuesday=O
August 2024 and September 2024
August 2024 will be based in Kingussie area. It will start with a mainly urban MapRun course on 6th August before using both Glen Gynack East and Glen Gynack West on 13th, 20th and 27th August - all TBC. Thanks to Pat and Ray for stepping up to do the 'Meet and Greet' on 27th August as Lynne is away.
September 2024 - any volunteers to either plan some exercises (many areas available as we are outwith caper season then) or do the Meet & Greet (Lynne is away for a lot of September and October)? Please contact Lynne if you are interested or able to help in any way.
3. Team BASOC at Nevis Range POC opening
Seven BASOC members made their way over to Nevis Range to go to the opening of the Permanent Orienteering Course there. Read all about this club outing.
4. Urban orienteering
Four (out of five) NUL (Northern Urban League) events have now taken place. Quite a few BASOC have been to one event; the following have completed at least two events:
- Long course: Jane Chisholm, Paul Frost, Clare Kemsley (one Long and one Short course)
- Short course: Rhona Paton, Lynne Walker.
The final NUL takes place at Lochardil, Inverness on Friday 23rd August.
There is a weekend of urban orienteering in September - SOUL (Scottish Orienteering Urban League) #5 at Nairn on Saturday 21st September and SOUL #6 at Burghead the following day.
5. World Masters MTBO event in 2026
This Mountain Bike Orienteering event is taking place from 3rd to 7th June 2026, mainly on the Moray Coast. For a big event like this, the areas they intend to use are placed under an embargo for two years - and the embargo applies even if you visit the area for FootO. "If competitors run in Foot Orienteering events within the embargo areas they can still enter the 2026 event but will be classed as non competitive for the 2026 event."
Have a look at the article and map on the Scottish Orienteering website so you are fully aware of things.
