The days are starting to become longer, we are nearly at the end of the Tuesday = DarkO season. The orienteering ‘season’ has started with club members competing at the Scottish Sprint Champs (Stirling University) and the CompassSport Trophy (Beecraigs, near Linlithgow). Gemma, Izzy and Anna all achieved excellent results; everyone had something to smile about and more experience was gained by all.
There is a lot of news again this week, read on for more information!

Training

The BASOC website is being updated with training opportunities:

Spring into O – did you come along to the Spring / Family sessions in previous years? Maybe you took part in the schools’ leagues? These sessions (1st, 8th & 15th May) are designed to help you get back into orienteering. Please see the BASOC website for details of ‘Spring into O’. All primary children must have an adult with them.

Train to Race – there will be a series of 5 x Tuesdays (26th April to 22nd May), working on a variety of techniques, including some race simulation. While many club members are targeting the British and Scottish Champs, these sessions will be suitable for all who have some orienteering experience and are wanting to compete in events this year.

MORAVIAN training opportunities: Moravian have offered BASOC the opportunity to join in with a couple of their training sessions; please note pre-booking details

Saturday 17th March, Culbin training

Wednesday 21st March, Route Choice workshop

Moravian are also planning on some informal runs / social, starting on Wednesday 28th March in Nairn. Contact Ali Wiseman for details couttsie29@gmail.com

Mainly for Juniors

BASOC would like to have juniors going to the following events:

Scottish Schools, Friday 1st June (entries would be done through the school); location TBC, Central Belt somewhere.

Moray & Highland Junior Champs, Saturday 9th June, Anagach; details are on the BASOC website.

Jamie Stevenson Trophy (JST), Sunday 17th June, Royal Deeside. This is a really enjoyable event where you meet juniors from all the Scottish clubs.

BASOC calendar

We have also produced a calendar for you – this has BASOC Tuesday = O as well as all known events you might want to go to. It is available as a spreadsheet to download and you can then personalise it. There is an example given as well as a way to plan what you need to work on in training. If you have any questions about it, then please ask Hilary Q or Lynne.

Clothing

With all these opportunities to compete with BASOC, you might be wanting some club kit? Jo Cumming will soon be contacting everyone regarding club kit orders. The BASOC kit does stand out and we all wear it with pride!

If you would like to volunteer for one of the vacant posts then please do contact Lynne.

Publicity

Kat McGougan is always looking for information to put up on the BASOC Facebook page. If you go to events then maybe take a couple of pictures and send them to her along with a few words about the event.

katrinamcgougan6@gmail.com

She is also putting regular reports into the Strathy so please do send information!

Future diary dates

BASOC are organising these events so we will be asking for people to come along and help on the day:
