Published: Sun 6 Jan 2019

Two updates added 7th January 2019

Welcome to 2019 - and orienteering locally and maybe a bit further away? Some events are coming along soon, it may be winter but there is plenty to go to. Some other events are a bit further away but are cheaper if you enter early.

Please remember to check that you have renewed your BOF or SOA membership - this seems to have slipped by quite a few of you!
I notice some have changed age class this year - enjoy the challenges of this!

Remember that Tuesday training continues, check the BASOC website for updates regarding this.

1. Local events

2019 starts off with the Northern Night Cup at Tolquhonie, Carrbridge on Wednesday 9th January. Details are on the BASOC website here Please do pre-enter on SiEntries to help the on the night organisers. Also check to make sure you have entered!! There will be soup available after your run. If possible please also offer to help to collect controls.

The other NNC events are Wednesday 16th January at Littlemill (Inverarnie) and Wednesday 23rd January at Findhorn. Again pre-entry helps the organisers at the event. Northern Night Cup website

Moravian have a couple of local events, details are on the Moravian website www.moravianorienteering.org

BASOC have a local event on Sunday 3rd February, more details will soon be on the BASOC website.
Update
"Due to a combination of circumstances, the decision has been made to postpone our local event scheduled for 3rd February. We will update you when we have a new date for this event."

Put Sunday 10th February in your diary as INVOC are holding an event at Anagach, Grantown on Spey.

2. Larger events

Are you thinking of travelling a bit further away to an event this year? Often there will be BASOC orienteers travelling to the events below, why not think of sharing transport?

25th - 27th January: this is advertised as the 'Big Weekend', hosted by Edinburgh University. There are three events you can enter - a sprint on Friday night on Calton Hill; an urban race in the Dean Village area on the Saturday; ceilidh Saturday night and a colour-coded event on Arthur's Seat on the Sunday. All details are here euoc.wordpress.com/big-weekend Entries close on Tuesday 22nd January.

23rd - 24th February: this is a big weekend just over the hill from us. Again there are three events you could enter - a sprint (SOUL) on the Saturday afternoon at Cove near Aberdeen, details on the GRAMP website here grampoc.com ; the British Night Champs at Muir of Dinnet (Aboyne) on the Saturday night with the first SOL of the season at Birsemore on the Sunday. Details for the latter two events are on the MAROC website here www.marocscotland.org.uk First closing date is 4/2/19 after which fees go up by £1. Final closing date is 18/2/19 midnight.

The JK is a large event held over Easter weekend every year; it rotates around the country and will be based at Aldershot 19th - 22nd April 2019. Full details are here www.thejk.org.uk Entries prices rise on 14th January. Jane Chisholm went to this a couple of years ago, have a chat with her about her experience there.

The Scottish 6 Days this year is Strathearn 2019 and details are on the website here www.scottish6days.com/2019 It is cheaper to enter by 31st January. BASOC are helping on Day 3 but all helpers should be able to have a run that day as well.
Update The event is the same time as the annual Comrie festival fortnight so accommodation is filling up fast.

25th - 26th May is the Scottish Champs weekend. It was very local for us last year so this year we have to travel to SW Scotland. The individual is on the Saturday at Dalbeattie with the relay on the Sunday at Drumlanrig. Put these dates in your diary!

For all dates of events in Scotland, keep an eye out on the Scottish Orienteering website Events page here www.scottish-orienteering.org
