October is a lovely month - great orienteering in colourful forests, the start of using head torches on Tuesday evenings and holiday time for some. What opportunities are coming up and what has been happening?
Looking forward
1. Saturday 20th October, Mountain Bike O in Anagach.
Please see the information below, noting how to order your map:
Mountain Bike Orienteering in Anagach, Grantown on Spey. NJ035276. Start on the Speyside Way. Parking limited so you may have to park in Grantown. Public toilets in the car park near the museum.
Sprint 4.2km (suitable for all). Start from 09.30 Last starts 10.15
Followed at 11.00 by a 3.4km sprint with chasing start.
All courses on forest tracks. Helmets mandatory.
Seniors £3, Juniors £1, to cover map printing and BMBO insurance/levy. Please reserve maps by completing the survey monkey form.
2. Sunday 21st October, Junior training
Roll up roll up.... the website has been updated with details for the junior training on the 21st October. Please complete this survey monkey form to let Elizabeth know you're going. It should be fab and perfect prep. for the next weekend's relays and a good way to meet some juniors in our neighbouring clubs. Fiona and Nikki and Suzanne from INVOC will also be coaching... thanks to all.
3. Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th October, Moravian Moray Mega weekend including Junior Inter Area competition
Saturday 27th October: Scottish Urban Orienteering league (SOUL) in Forres; further details on the Moravian webite
Sunday 28th October: Scottish Orienteering League (SOL) in Roseisle; further details on the Moravian website
These events are a short distance away and will provide a weekend of great orienteering.
Pre-enter at SiEntries by Sunday 21st October to ensure that you can run the course you want to.
4. Monday 12th November, Visionteering, Inverness City Centre
It's back. Urban night orienteering in a score format. Hosted by Run4It. Juniors 15yrs and under must run accompanied.

5. Sunday 25th November, Loch of Boath
INVOC are hosting an event at Loch of Boath, near Cawdor.

6. Sunday 2nd December, Club Champs and AGM
This will take place in Newtonmore, further details available in November.
Remember that there is the opportunity to go out to play in the forest every Tuesday, details on the BASOC website. There will be a mix of forest and urban coming up.
What has been happening
Veteran Home International event, 29th & 30th September
From BASOC, Gemma and Duncan (Francis) represented Scotland with Gemma scoring an excellent win in W35, well done.
Junior Home International event, 6th & 7th October
Kat and Anna represented Scotland and were proud to be part of the winning team. Well done to both of you.

Kat, Izzy & Anna are part of the ScotJOS Squad for 2018 - 2019, congratulations.
Committee matters
- The committee is looking forward to plans for 2019; this will include many local events throughout the year so there will be opportunities for all to develop their orienteering skills, develop planning or organising skills through a small event.
- We have our Scottish Orienteering Bronze Accreditation Award; the parameters for Silver have just been announced so we will look at this.
