INVOC MapRun Series
INVOC are inviting BASOC (and MOR) to take part in their MapRun series of events. Below is a message from James Laird and Jon Shepherd.
With Scottish Orienteering lifting the restriction on club only events we just wanted to invite you and your club members to enjoy our urban series. It’s a MapRun series – so not quite the real thing, but almost there. The league is the best 3 of 4 events.
The first event at Inshes Park in Inverness has closed from a league point of view but the MapRun course is open until Nov 1st. The league results have been compiled – so you can do Inshes Park as a training event.
The second event is still open (in Kinmylies – an area mapped by the British Squad originally for training at WOC2015). That does mean that you can still get a full counting score in the league if you can get out this week.
Raigmore and Dingwall will be the next two.
Event details and maps can be downloaded from the homepage of our website. Routegadget links are all there too. Kinmylies is at the top of the homepage, and Inshes Park lower down.
As the events are completely self-run with each open for a couple of weeks, there are low risks relating to COVID. However the usual BOF guidance about COVID does need to be followed. It would be good to see some BASOC names on the leaderboard!
Finally, some advice from James about MapRun: The MapRun app can be a bit annoying with a time interval to getting locked on to the control, and sometimes leading to a mispunch. If your Garmin watch can accommodate it my recommendation is to install MapRunG as an IQ app and go from there. You don’t even need to run with your phone then. (We have some links on our website).
