The new BASOC Committee and the BASOC 2018 Club champion
Reminder about the club champs. Details about entering online for the Northern Night Cup.
Even although the days are becoming shorter and the weather cooler, there is still loads going on in the orienteering world!
The 2018 BASOC Club Champs and AGM will take place in Newtonmore Village Hall on Sun 2nd December 2018.
October is a lovely month - great orienteering in colourful forests, the start of using head torches on Tuesday evenings and holiday time for some. What opportunities are coming up and what has been happening?
We all enjoy orienteering ‘off path’, venturing into areas where there is undergrowth – and there the ticks are lurking, seeking out anything warm-blooded! A tick bite can cause moderate to severe health issues through the transfer of a whole host of things (viruses, bacteria, parasites, poison).
The Lakes 5-Days is a multi-day event held every four years down in the Lake District. This year Mum and I decided to head down for a week and give it a go! I’d previously spent a weekend training in the Lakes last November and so was excited for the five races.
Holidays are now a distant memory for most - and the fact that there was frost on the car this morning means that there are many positives for orienteers. The bracken is beginning to turn colour and die back a bit; visibility in the woodlands changes as trees turn through golden colours and eventually lose their leaves.
There is quite a bit of news this month and the committee have also met so there are some updates regarding BASOC business.
Earlier this year I received an email informing me that I had been selected for the JROS (Junior Regional Orienteering Squad) Lagganlia camp which took place in early August. The camp is focused solely on second year W/M14’s like me all around Britain and only around 25 kids are selected so I was very happy (and shocked) when I found out I had a place.
Paul & I have now returned from our extended wanderings; I am looking forward to catching up with some BASOC at Tuesday = O training over the next few weeks. Meanwhile, here are a few things for you. If you have anything for either the website or the BASOC news then please it send to Lynne.
