Veteran Home Internationals 2017, Bulletin One
Badenoch & Strathspey Orienteering Club (BASOC) is pleased to extend a warm welcome to all competitors at the 2017 Veteran Home International. We offer a weekend of top class terrain, great planning, and an excellent accommodation package in the Spey valley. The VHI will take place in conjunction with the popular annual Wolf Weekend which BASOC has hosted for the last 4 years.
Lagganlia Centre for Outdoor Learning has been booked to accommodate all competitors. Full board will be available from Saturday breakfast to Sunday breakfast (inclusive). Self-catering facilities available for Friday dinner. The VHI dinner and a social ceilidh will take place at Lagganlia on Saturday evening. Most rooms are twins or fours. Cost will be around £90/head.
Saturday 23rd September: VHI Relay at Balliefurth nr. Grantown-on-Spey. This delightful mixed birch woodland offers excellent contour detail and fast running beside the river Spey. 35 minute drive from accommodation. NB Relays start 10:10.
Sunday 24th September: VHI Individual in the amazingly detailed classic Speyside forest at Inshriach. Accessed directly from accommodation. Early start block from 0930 for VHI runners – prizegiving 1300 to allow for long journeys home.
Controls will be out on Inshriach North West, less than 1km from accommodation. In addition a small SI Air model course will be set out at Lagganlia (see Contactless Punching below). These free training maps will be available all day Friday and Saturday.
Scottish Orienteering Urban League Event #9 at Aviemore will offer excellent flat sprint orienteering on a brand new area. This will take place on Saturday afternoon. VHI competitors will have time to cool down after the relay before taking part in this optional extra event. NB this event is not part of the Veteran Home International. 15 mins drive from Balliefurth, 20 minutes drive back to accommodation.
The VHI Relay and Individual will be timed using SI Air contactless punching. SI Air Cards (SIAC) will be issued to all VHI Relay runners.
