On Sunday 12th February 13 BASOC members made their way down the A9 to Pitlochry to compete in the Scottish round of the CompassSport trophy (and event for all orienteering clubs in Scotland and for all age classes).

As my first event as Club Captain I was very proud of our little club putting out a full team of 13 runners who did a sterling job collecting 13 counting scores - the maximum available in the Trophy competition. There was a lot of control number checking in the compact forest to ensure everyone completed and BASOC took 6th place with 1135 points.
It was lovely to have members new and experienced, young and old(er) all together, and I don’t know about others but having teammates there cheering at the run-in helped me find another gear!
Special thanks to Gemma, Claire and Laura who ran in their male equivalent age category, and Lynne who ran against younger rivals. This allowed everyone’s score to count towards the team total as only 2 per class count, and made for an interesting head to head between Lynne and Hilary Quick who came out on top by just 12 seconds! You can see their routes as both Hilary & Lynne put them up on RouteGadget.

Individual placings:

The next team event on Scottish soil is the Relays at the Scottish Champs weekend on 27th & 28th May near Oban. Get the date in your diary! Don’t be put off by the grand title there is options for all and BASOC try not to take ourselves too seriously.
There is also relays at the JK in the Lake District on Easter weekend - if anyone is travelling to that and would be keen to make a team let me know.
