What's coming up for you in June 2023 and what has been happening.
1. Scottish Champs report
11 BASOC members made their way west to the Oban area for the Scottish Champs weekend 27th & 28th May 2023. Read how things went in the report on the BASOC website - with lots of action photos!
2. BASOC event, 13th June 2023
Remember to sign up for the event on Tuesday 13th June at Mullochard; starts from 6pm to 7pm. Pre-entries will ensure you get the map of the course you want – Green, Orange or Score – and enter by 23:59 on Tuesday 6th June!
3. BASOC Event Safety and Welfare workshop, 20th June 2023
This workshop is aimed at all who orienteer - whether you are a competitor, an event official (planner or organiser) or helper or you just come along to Tuesday=O training sessions. It is a suitable refresher for those who have attended the course before - there are some new materials!
The workshop will be at Carrbridge Village Hall, no cost to BASOC members. It will run from 6:30pm to 9:30pm (bring your sandwiches), will be interactive with loads of discussion and a practical outdoor element.
Please sign up by Saturday 17th June to receive the pre-course materials. There will be no other Tuesday=O that evening.
4. A4 Design & Print Northern Urban League
This is a joint venture between INVOC and Moravian, kindly sponsored by A4 Design & Print who print our maps. There will be 4 urban races over 4 weeks in June, on Wednesday or Thursday evenings.
The event dates and locations are as follows:
- 1 = Wednesday 7 June 2023 – Pilmuir, Thornhill and Knockomie in Forres. Event hosted by MOR.
- 2 = Thursday 15 June 2023 – UHI and Raigmore in Inverness. Event hosted by INVOC.
- 3 = Thursday 22 June 2023 - Inshes Park in Inverness. Event hosted by INVOC.
- 4 = Wednesday 28 June 2023 – Elgin South. Event hosted by MOR.
If you sign up to all four events then a discount applies. The prices are low and there will be two courses (a long (5-6.5km) and a short (2-3.5 km)). Points will be awarded for each race with a short presentation and prizes after the final event.
The link to sign up is on SI Entries with entries closing on the evening of Sunday 4th June for Round 1.
5. BASOC Tuesday=O
Thank you to Callum for all the May Tuesday=O.
Sessions continue in June with 6th June at Mullochard (short loops and a coached map walk on offer).
July and August will have an informal Tuesday=O. There will be controls out in an area (still to be confirmed where but probably Nethy), go along on a Tuesday at 6:30pm and maybe some others will be there. Or go along at a time you want to. There will also be a MTBO (Mountain Bike Orienteering) on Tuesday 4th
July, organised by (Purple) Jane.
6. SOA AGM
This will take place online on Monday 5th June at 7pm. As Scottish Orienteering is a membership organisation, it is important that you think about attending (from your armchair) and having your say! If you are unable to attend, then exercise your right to vote by using the voting forms on the website.
All details are on the Scottish Orienteering website.
7. BASOC Board meeting minutes
The Board met on Monday 15th May and the minutes are now available.
8. Scottish Schools Orienteering Festival
The Scottish Schools Orienteering Festival took place on Friday 2nd June at Callendar Park in Falkirk. Lewis and Rhona were representing Grantown Grammar School… Rhona was 3rd in the S1 Girls’ event and Lewis 9th in the S1 Boys event. Well done to both of you.
