3. Tuesday=DarkO

DarkO starts (officially) next Tuesday, 29th October at Loch Vaa NE.
There will be a change in Tuesday=O pricing structure when we move into DarkO. It will only affect non-BASOC orienteering club members who will move from paying the discounted rate (£2/£1) to the full rate (£4/£2). BASOC members will continue to be eligible for the discounted rate for club training. The money pots, sign-in sheets and website will be updated.

4. Moravian Urban Training

Want to do some DarkO but the forest is just a wee bit too much? Moravian are putting on some night sprint training with the first one in Elgin on Wednesday 30th October 2019. More details including ordering your map are on the Moravian website.

5. Can you help with this research by completing a survey?

Claire Wicks, a PhD student at the University of Essex, has got in touch asking if we can help with her research. Here’s the email she sent:
I am a PhD researcher at the University of Essex and am writing to invite members of Badenoch & Strathspey Orienteering Club to participate in some research that I am conducting. My research investigates the relationship between participation in green exercise (physical activity whilst in the presence of elements of nature) and depressive symptoms in the UK general population. This research is important to understand if green exercise can be used as a healthcare intervention for people with depressive symptoms.

Participation in this research involves completion of an online survey and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. The survey asks some questions about the participant, the type of physical activity they like to do and why, and about how they have been feeling recently. The survey is completed anonymously and participants will not be asked for any information that may identify them. All responses will be kept confidential and stored securely. This research has been reviewed and received ethical approval from the University of Essex ethics committee. Further information is available at this link.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by email at cwicks@essex.ac.uk, or my lead supervisor, Dr Leanne Andrews at landre@essex.ac.uk.

Thank you very much for your help with my research.

6. Events to go to

Remember to keep an eye on other orienteering club websites for events to go to - Moravian, INVOC, MAROC and GRAMP all have events coming up in November and December. There is also the list on the Scottish Orienteering website.
