Events, medals and Tuesday=O is now outside!

1. Tuesday=O

We are now back orienteering outside with a full programme of training and activities!
Alice is starting the training off with some fast courses round Grantown (urban orienteering is definitely sprint for the brain, you forget you are running in the town!). These will be on 7th & 14th March.
On 21st March Suzanne is hosting a run in Anagach followed by a social and then Clare takes us into BST with contour solving at North Granish on 28th March. Links for the maps and training details are on the Tuesday=O page.
All BASOC ‘happenings’ are on the BASOC calendar (as of 2nd March 2023).

2. Moray 2023 (M2023)

Moray 2023 is taking place from 30th July to 4th August. It is the Scottish 6 Days event – although there will only be 5 forest stages this year (but a Sprint on the ‘rest day’ and 3 Mountain Bike O races).
As you’re probably aware, BASOC members are due to help on Day 5 (M2023 D5) of the “6 Day” event Friday 4th August, at Culbin. At this stage, the co-ordinators would like to identify team leaders for the various task groups, and we have been asked if anyone would be willing to lead either the car parking team or the “Arena” team. Brief role descriptions will be available soon; neither role should take much time before the event, most of it will be on the day. If 2 people do a job-share for either role, you could probably both get a run on the day. Please contact Hilary Q if you’d like to help.

3. Minutes of the BASOC Board

The minutes of the Board meeting held on 13th February 2023 are on the website.

4. Scottish Night Championships

The 2023 SNC were held at Balmoral on Saturday 25th February. Balmoral is a technical area in daylight so there was a bit of trepidation regarding just what it would be like at night! MAROC were the organising club and had hired a hall so everyone could gather and chat after their run; there was also a street food van outside.
Three BASOC took part in the SNC and all came home with a medal! Clare Kemsley was 2nd in the Womens SuperVet class, Rob Hickling 2nd in the Mens UltraVet class and Lynne Walker 3rd in the Womens UltraVet class.

5. Event Safety & Welfare (ESW) workshop

This ESW workshop is for everyone – whether you are a competitor, someone who only wants to come to BASOC training, an event official (e.g. planner or organizer).
BASOC are holding an interactive, face-to-face ESW workshop on Tuesday 20th June 2023 at Carrbridge Village Hall from 6:30pm to 9:30pm (bring your sandwiches!). There will be no cost for BASOC members. As the workshop is happening on a Tuesday evening, there will be no Tuesday=O that evening.
More details regarding the workshop, signing up etc. are on the BASOC website.

6. MOR (Moravian) Club Development Officer

Moravian has recently received funding for a club development officer.
Is anyone in BASOC interested in this position? Closing date 6th March 2023.

7. Events

Remember to check local evenys on the MOR and INVOC websites.
Scottish Orienteering have a calendar of events around the country - have you entered SOL 1 (Scottish Orienteering League 1) which is just down the road at Errochty near Calvine? The event is on Sunday 12th March and entries close on Sunday 5th March at 10pm.
