Festive greetings to everyone and hopefully some more orienteering in 2021.
Walter has gone AWOL - see item 6!

1. Tuesday=DarkO

Uath Lochans will be the location for Tuesday=DarkO until the end of January with Hilary Q. setting the training for us all there.
Alteration to time, Tuesday 29th December 2020.
As it is the festive / holiday season when many might be off Tuesday 29th December 2020 training will be at 11am, meeting at the car park beside Uath Lochans.

Lynne will take over the training for February, location/s yet to be decided. The BASOC website will have all the details when appropriate.

2. Lochaber 2021

Details regarding this event are on the Lochaber 2021 website.
Entries open on 1st January 2021
BASOC are helping on Day 5, Friday 6th August. The location is one of our areas – Creag Dhubh near Newtonmore! Jo (Cumming) is the BASOC liaison for this; we are likely to be involved in the String course and probably Car parking (as we did such a great job of these two roles at Strathearn 2019!).
Here is the link to the Lochaber promotion video – spot any BASOC tops there?

3. BASOC AGM & Committee meeting minutes

The minutes are available here.
The committee also had a Zoom meeting on 23rdNovember, the minutes are available using the same link.

4. BASOC Club Champs 2020

Congratulations to Alice, the BASOC 2020 club champion!
Results are here.
Thanks to Gemma & Mehmet for putting this event on.

5. MapRun

Another MapRun set of courses is now available at Moor of Alvie. To make it a wee bit harder the paths have been removed from the map.
Access to the map PDF and other details are on the Scottish Orienteering website – there are a lot of MapRun courses listed!

6. Events

Getting the urge to head off for an event in the New Year? Before you enter anything remember to check the latest guidance on the Scottish Orienteering website as it is likely there will be restrictions in place.
MOR are proposing having another NightO event in January! Keep an eye on the MOR website for further details when they become available.

On Wednesday 16th December, Alice, Jane (Purple) & Tim tackled the Long course at Culbin while Clare & Lynne were on the Short. Have a look at the courses in RouteGadget, the Long (planned by Phil & Fergus Kenyon, I did hear that Fergus was the one who wanted it to be as hard as possible!) certainly looks like a challenge at night!

However I have to report an unfortunate happening – this might have changed by the time you read this, fingers crossed. Jane had Walter (our club mascot) helping her round the course and he is now AWOL probably somewhere between #13 & #14 on the long course. If Jane does not find him she might be looking for folks to help with a search – good practice for our search & rescue techniques! I reckon he is out there trying to draw a Wolf for his Strava art competition entry

INVOC have a few MapRuns coming up in the New Year. Details are on the INVOC website.
They also have iROMP courses coming in a variety of areas. BASOC members should email the iROMP planner for copies of the maps or contact enquiries@invocmail.org.uk

7. SPORTIdent end of year offer

Thinking of upgrading to a contactless SI card?
When you purchase a SIAC Contactless card in December, you will receive a £6 discount on your new card if you email SPORTident a photo of your old SI-Card5 or SI-Card6. Best of all, you can also keep your SI-Card5 or SI-Card6.

8. World of O Route to Christmas

Want to improve your orienteering through some armchair geeking? Check out the ‘Route to Christmas’ on World of O. How quickly can you make your decision, what is your decision based on?

9. Opportunity for Juniors

From FVO:
As we all know, 2020 has been a bit of a washout for orienteering, with many events having to be cancelled and plans abandoned. However, with the recent relaxation of COVID restrictions in the Falkirk area, I'm delighted to be able to invite you to send your junior athletes to FVO's Callendar Park Christmas Cracker event, which will take place on Sunday 27th December.
Provisional event details here and enter here.
There will be no adult courses on offer, but adults from Tier 1/Tier 2 areas are welcome to come along and compete on one of the five courses which we do have. The event will incorporate the 2020 FVO Junior Club Championships, and our juniors are eager for some good competition.”
Remember to check the restrictions and guidelines on the Scottish Orienteering website; these are the latest ones which will remain in place until 5th January 2021.
