Phew, the JHI and SOL event is over - reports to read, events to look forward to and loads more. Things are in no particular order - so make sure you read it all!

1. Creag Dhubh / Newtonmore JHI / SOL

From BASOC Chair (Clare): Thanks to everyone who helped at the Creag Dubh SOL and JHIs - especially to Lynne and Jo who took on the lead roles of planning and organizing, and to Laura and Ben who took on assistant roles. With 330 competitors between the two events it was a huge undertaking. Thanks also to Alan Halliday for controlling and others from outside the club who helped on the day.
There is a comprehensive report on the BASOC website.
Also have a look at RouteGadget, there is so much learning about O technique there!

2. CompassSport Cup / Trophy

Ann, our Club Captain, has had an email about the 2023 CompassSport trophy event. The Scottish event is being held on Sun 12th Feb at Faskally, Pitlochry. Our entry has to be in by 30th Nov. At the moment Ann is just looking for an indication regarding whether or not you would be able to go / like to go. She can be contacted via the Contacts page on the BASOC website. Faskally is a reasonably pleasant wood just north of Pitlochry; there is a path network and good contour detail (individual hills!). A map of the area is on the STAG website.

3. Planning workshops, Autumn 2022

The ‘Getting started in planning’ workshop is full.
On Monday 21st November there will be a workshop / discussion “Do we use too many controls when planning TD5 courses?” Applications for this workshop will appear soon on the Scottish Orienteering website.

4. Tuesday=O October & November

October Tuesday=O is at Uath Lochans with Andy Lewellyn planning the exercises.
November 1st, 8th and 15th will be at Moor of Alvie; the theme will be compass work for Night O.
November 22nd – to be decided, depending on NNC events.
All details for October are on the BASOC website; these will be replaced with November details after 25th October.

5. BASOC O calendar

There have been no changes to the calendar since September, the latest one is here in case you missed it though.

6. BASOC Club Champs & AGM

Suzanne Anderson is organising and planning the Club Champs this year on Saturday 26 November. Start and Finish will be at Nethy Bridge Community Hall with lunch and AGM following on. Arrive for 10:45am with Mass Start at 11:00 hrs. There will be a Score course for U16s (30 minutes; others can select this as well) as well as an Open Score course (45 minutes) for everyone else. There is no charge for BASOC members. Non-members fee is £3 adults, £2 junior.
There will soon be more information on the BASOC website (look under 'Go Orienteering').
The Club Champs will be followed by a “pot luck" lunch where everyone brings a dish to share. There will then be the AGM and it would be great to see as many BASOC members there as possible (non members also welcome)

7. Contributions for Tuesday=O

Contributions for Tuesday=O will come into effect on 1st November 2022. For each Tuesday you attend, please either place your contribution into the ‘pot’ or pay the club by BACS (details will be on slips in the tub).
The Board feel that this has to be implemented as equipment is used which has to be replaced; O kites do deteriorate if left out for exercises and doing this does decrease the amount of work required.
If maps are printed for you, then an extra £1 contribution will cover this.

8. BASOC Coaching Saturday 5th November

There will be a coaching session (TD3 = Orange and upwards) at Moor of Alvie. The focus for the session will be ‘Contours’. The session will run from 10:45am to 1pm – and if the weather is reasonable why not bring your sandwiches along and have a blether afterwards?
Details will shortly be on the BASOC website, along with a contact details form to be completed to indicate that you are coming. Please complete the form by Wednesday 2nd November 2022.
Contributions for this are the same as for Tuesday=O.

9. Events coming up

MOR have a couple of local events coming up

There will be 6 NNC (Northern Night Cup) events.

Please note that the INVOC event on 30th October 2022 has been CANCELLED.

10. Minute of the BASOC Board meeting, 12th September 2022

The minute of the meeting can be accessed on the BASOC website.

11. BASOC Festive Fun event

Tuesday 27th December – come along and run off those Christmas meals! We are proposing having a fun event in Ellan Wood at Carrbridge, followed by a social (details to be confirmed at the moment).
Would anyone like to have a shot a planning this? If so, please get in touch with Lynne (via the BASOC Contacts page). Guidance & help will be given – you do not need to have any planning experience.
