BASOC event on 9th October, other events, changes to Tuesday=O, BASOC athletes selected to run for Scotland and GB and much more.

1. BASOC event, 9th October 2022

Have you got your entry in for our event yet?
SOL6, the JHI and the final round of the Scottish Junior Cup are almost upon us with Planning and Organising well under way. We're expecting 86 JHI runners. Thank you to everyone who has offered to help. We can always use more.
Remember to enter if you want to run. Last choice for a start time is "helper parent split times". Choose this and you can be slotted in at a time to suit your shift.
If you know of anyone who would like have a go at O, we have a White and Yellow starting and finishing in Assembly. £10 a map for non-members. These are via SiEntries or are the only Entry On the Day (EOD) courses. Young children can enjoy the Cones Maze which is free with a souvenir for everyone. Please encourage local people to come along.
Lynne is looking for more control collectors. She and Laura will be out at first light waking up controls so would appreciate help to bring them in.
Now we just need entries! Deadline 23.59 Sunday 2nd October.
See you there. The more volunteers we have, the easier it is for everyone on the day. Please contact Jo Cumming (via Contacts page on the BASOC website).

2. Tuesday=O

Thank you to all who completed the questionnaire – there is an article on the website with a summary of the responses and an explanation about the way forward (from the end of October 2022).
Suzanne is taking on the task of finding volunteers to lead activities throughout the year including the regular Tuesday night training sessions. If your response to the Tue=O questionnaire indicated that you would be willing to be involved, then Suzanne will soon be in touch to confirm what you would like to do. If you didn’t fill in the questionnaire but are willing to help out at training at some point during the year, then please get in touch with Suzanne directly via the Volunteer Coordinator link on the Contacts page of the BASOC website. There are lots of things that would help the club including just being willing to organise a social get-together occasionally, so don’t worry if you’re not an expert orienteering planner! If you’d like to organise something just get in touch.

3. Tuesday=O programme September and October

The remainder of September will be at Loch Vaa SE (the open moorland bit). Details about this will be posted on the website.
October will be at Uath Lochans, thank you to Andy Llewellyn for this.

4. Contributions for Tuesday=O

Contributions for Tuesday=O will come into effect from the end of October 2022. For each Tuesday you attend, please either place your contribution into the ‘pot’ or pay the club by BACS (details will be on slips in the tub).
The Board feel that this has to be implemented as equipment is used which has to be replaced; O kites do deteriorate if left out for exercises and doing this does decrease the amount of work required.
If maps are printed for you, then an extra £1 contribution will cover this.

10. Coaching opportunities

Scottish Orienteering have announced a Coaching Calendar with a variety of training courses.
There are opportunities for juniors to get involved with planning (minimum age 12 years), coaching (minimum age 14 years) and organising (minimum age 16 years) – details are on the Scottish Orienteering website.
The North Area Young Coach Assistant course is planned for Saturday 1st October, probably Glenmore Lodge but this could change. Sign up asap if you are interested in this.
BASOC will support and encourage any junior who takes part in any of these courses. Contact Lynne if you want any further details and sign up very soon if you are interested.
There are Coaching Foundation courses happening for those who want to start to learn the basics about coaching – and this can also help you with your own orienteering!
Details of all courses are on the Scottish Orienteering Coaching Calendar page and Coach & Volunteer Development page.
