Tuesday=O, we need your thoughts on this!

Tuesday=O started in 2009 and was the inspiration of Hilary Quick. For the first year, it ran from April to October; in 2010 BASOC members asked “Why is this stopping?” and so T=DarkO happened. Since then there has been something on almost every Tuesday night from 6:30pm to 7:30pm (exceptions have been driven by the weather conditions).

This programme has proven to be a positive thing for BASOC, attracting new members, allowing members to develop their orienteering skills quickly in quality terrain and there has been the opportunity to mix socially with one another.

Hilary now wishes to step down from the position of Tuesday=O coordinator. She has drawn up a graphic showing all the parts involved in the role and suggests that these tasks are shared out.

When you look at all that Hilary has been doing, I think you will agree that BASOC has a huge amount to thank her for, especially with the time she has been doing the role.

As well as looking at dividing up the tasks (and more details as to what is involved in each task can be obtained from Hilary), BASOC Board and the CDOs (Club Development Officers – Kat & Izzy) had a discussion about the sustainability of the current model which is having something on every Tuesday 6:30pm to 7:30pm throughout the year. Basically this model is probably not sustainable at the moment; it takes quite a bit of time to lead on the planning / placing controls / be there on a Tuesday evening and it all can be extremely difficult to do after a working day. Even although this is shared out around willing volunteers, BASOC just do not have enough volunteers with the skills to do this.

The CDOs proposed an annual calendar which is split up into ‘seasons’; there would also be some breaks in the Tuesday=O, especially around the wintertime. An infographic has been created to show what this might look like.

Note – there is some ‘shorthand’ on the infographic: NNC = Northern Night Cup (series of 6 NightO events run by BASOC, Moravian, INVOC); PDPD (PLAN, Direction, Picture, Distance method of orienteering).

So, what do BASOC members need to do now?

Please have a look at the two graphics and have a think about what you want from the club and also what BASOC can sustain.
Where can you offer to help out / take on a role?
There is also a short questionnaire for you to complete so that we can gather as many opinions as possible to take the club forward.
Please complete this questionnaire by Tuesday 6th September 2022, even if you do not come along to T=O.
