This will take place on Tuesday 27th December 2022, based at Carrbridge Village Hall. Please arrive ready for the briefing at 10:45am in the hall before departing to Ellan Wood for some festive fun created by Kat & Izzy.
Further details on the BASOC website, including the sign up form. Please sign up by Sunday 18th December to allow for map printing – we will get some extra maps printed so if you miss the sign up time then please email Lynne for an entry (and £1 extra).
There will be a charge for this – BASOC members = £3 adult, £2 junior / student with non-BASOC members = £4 adult, £3 junior / student.
Bring along your lunch sandwiches (who can produce the best festive sandwich?), there will be some games in the hall after the activity (and control collection).

2. BASOC Club Champs

The BASOC Club Champs were held at Nethy on Saturday 26th November 2022, planned by Suzanne Anderson (thank you). A range of BASOC members turned out, along with guests from GRAMP, MOR and Stirling University. The Club Champs is a score format and then a handicap is applied by the planner. Congratulations to Mike Linnett on being the BASOC Club Champ 2022 with Finley Hollinger being the Under 16 club champ.

The minutes of the BASOC Board meeting from 7th November are available on the BASOC website.

7. Events to go to

Saturday 14th January 2023: Quarry Wood, Elgin (MOR)
Remember to look on the Scottish Orienteering Fixtures list for all events around the country.
There is also a great summary of events for 2023 on the Scottish Orienteering website, thanks Nikki.

8. Moray 2023 entries open

The Scottish 6 Day event for 2023 is called Moray 2023; it will be held between Sunday 30th July and Friday 4th August and will be 5(!) days of main competition. On the ‘Rest day’ there will be a Sprint event. There will also be three mountain bike events held throughout the week – all details are on the M2023 website. Entries are through the BMBO website.

9. What do orienteers get up to when there is no O to go to?

Read Jane Chisholm’s account of her trip around the Overland 500 gravel cycle route in summer 2022.

10. Route to Christmas

The World of O website has a Christmas Advent Calendar – every day between 1st and 24th December they put up a leg from an event in 2022. You can then study the map and the leg and work out how you would tackle it. Many people draw up their route, and there is also detailed analysis of how the competitors tackled it. So – improve your O from the comfort of your computer chair!!

11. Scottish Orienteering Conference

Scottish Orienteering are holding a Development Conference in Perth on Saturday 15th April 2023. As yet there are no further details – BASOC would like to send a couple of delegates, one of which should / could be someone who has started orienteering more recently. Names to Clare.
