1. Tuesday=O is starting up again!

On Tuesday 28th February, Jane will bring along all the kit she has in stock – come along to try on / purchase.
All details are on the BASOC website.
Details of March Tuesday=O training will be on the website soon.
2. Ticks
We are starting to do more orienteering in the forests now as there are competitions, coaching sessions etc. This means that we are more at risk from tick bites and so we need to revisit our ‘tick hygiene’.
Everyone wants to avoid Lyme disease and so revisiting your tick awareness is worthwhile.
And there is also TBE (Tick-borne encephalitis) which is creeping westwards with the United Kingdom now appearing on the list of countries where TBE has been reported. Here is a good article to help you with your awareness of this disease.
3. NNC – how did BASOC do?
The Northern Night Cup (NNC) is now finished. For the overall league, you need to have completed 4 races to count.
Long course: Gemma Karatay, 1st woman, 8th overall
Short course: Clare Kemsley, 2nd woman, 6th overall
Many others took part but did not have 4 races to count for the overall.
4. CompassSport Cup / Trophy - report
Hot off the press - BASOC's visit to Faskally (Pitlochry) for the CompassSportCup / Trophy round.
Club Captain (Purple) Jane reports on BASOC's trip to Pitlochry.

The ‘Skilling up’ page has been updated with a new article added to the ‘Information to help you be a better orienteer’. The article is from the 2023 British Orienteering Coaching Conference and is titled ‘How to navigate and coaching tips’.
8. sportscotland concussion survey
New
UK-wide Concussion Guidelines are due to be launched by DCMS later this
month. As part of this initiative and the ongoing work being done here
in Scotland, sportscotland need to gather some baseline
data from those working in grassroots sport to determine current levels
of knowledge of concussion and awareness of the available information.
They want anyone involved in grassroots
sport (athletes, coaches, volunteers) to complete the survey. The more data they have, the greater understanding they will
have of the current levels of awareness and what more needs to be done.
Below
is some text from their partners who are gathering the data.
Head
injury and/or concussion is a common sporting injury that all those
involved in sport should be aware of. Despite this, there is currently a
lack knowledge about the injury within grassroots
sport which the UK Government is trying to address.
We
would like to invite you to complete our online questionnaire on your
own knowledge of concussion and how it is managed. This will inform
what education is further required as well as
how best to disseminate this information. It will take around 3-4
minutes to complete and we should be very grateful for your
participation.
Please click on the link to complete the survey:

The UK guidance is due to be launched on 21 February and the survey will be open until then.
9. Volunteers wanted!
BASOC are looking for volunteers for a few things - some involve very little, some a bit more. You might think you do not have enough experience, no problem as we can pair you up with someone to guide you through things.
- Saturday 15th April: Scottish Orienteering Club Conference in Perth. It woudl be great if someone who is quite new to the sport would like to volunteer to go to this; Hilary (Quick) will accompany you, please contact her if you are interested.
- Saturday 13th May: a volunteer is needed to put out & collect about 15 controls in Church Wood, Grantown on Spey. The controls need to be out before 1:30pm and collected in at 4pm (if you can only put out that would help a lot). Contact Jo Cumming if you are able to help with this.
- Tuesday 13th June: an 'on the day' organiser for a small evening event at Mullochard. Lynne will do most of the organising (and you can help with that part as well if you want to) but is unable to be there for the event. Contact Lynne Walker for this.
- Sunday 20th OR 27th August: planner for a small local event; contact Hilary (Q) if you would like to do this.
