BASOC eNews March 2022
A short eNews - as we are all out and about orienteering!
1. Thank you Issie!
Issie Inglis has been on the BASOC Committee since November 2017 and has decided to step down from the committee. During this time, Issie has contributed to the committee work which helps to keep BASOC running as a club. Many thanks Issie for all your work and we hope that you will be able to get back out orienteering in the future.
2. BASOC Friday Coaching sessions
While many of you take advantage of the Tuesday=O training sessions, running around in the dark is not to everyone’s taste! Some of you will also be starting to compete – and there is a choice of many events to go to over the next 2 months.
Friday 1st April, 3pm to 5pm: Glen Gynack: sign up by 9pm Wednesday 30th March 2022
Friday 6th May: Nethy

3. Tuesday=O
Tuesday 22nd March: the last of the DarkO at Loch Vaa NE.
Tuesday 29th March: Purple Pen online workshop, part 2.
This workshop will give you a planning challenge to do – in small groups in breakout rooms – before presenting to the group.
If there are any particular aspects of planning using Purple Pen which you would like covered, then please let Lynne know asap and no later than 6pm Monday 28th March.
April Tuesday=O returns with daylight! Details will soon be published on the BASOC website.
4. BASOC at the Compass Sport Trophy event
There is a report about the BASOC experience at the Compass Sport Trophy on the website.
Many thanks to Ann McGougan for sorting us all out - we hope her injury is improving and she will be able to join in club activities soon.
5. Events
Entries have now opened for the next INVOC event at Craig Leach on Sunday 27 March. Craig Leach is a working pine forest with complex contour and rock detail. The bracken is down in March offering some fast running. INVOC are looking forward to a great day orienteering in this popular forest overlooking Inverness, with a range of courses to suit all ages and abilities. It’s pre-entry only and entries will close at 2300 on Wednesday 23 March so don’t delay!
INVOC also have an iROMP out in Keppernach (near Cawdor). Contact them if you wish to be sent a map.
Alice is heading for many events over the next month - the Northern Champs / Northumberland Spring over the first weekend of April and the JK Festival of Orienteering in South Wales over Easter weekend. The club wishes her the best of runs in each of these. Clare will not have to do all the driving and will be spending some time in the passenger seat!
The BASOC MTBO event at Nethy on Friday (evening) 6th May is starting to take shape. Jane (Purple) is making good progress with the course planning and Steve (from MOR) has made the map into an MTBO one.
