BASOC eNews May 2023
There are many opportunities to go orienteering in May & June - both locally and further afield.
1. Scottish Champs weekend.
Jane (Club Captain) is collating interest for the relay teams at the Scottish Championships on Sunday 28th May. Details of the location for the Relays with a map of the area on the EckO website.
The relay teams are organised by age category with a system of handicap points, so to enable Jane to get people into the most suitable teams please could you provide Jane with the information required using this Google Form.
BASOC always have a great turnout for the relays each year. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and we very much enter into the Team Spirit element with lots of purple on show!
If you have never done an orienteering relay before you can watch the elites showing us how it’s done.
Please compete the form by Sunday 14th May as entries have to be submitted by Tuesday 16th May at the very latest.
Entries for the Scottish Individual Champs also close on Tuesday 16th May.
Jo is going to the Individual event on the Saturday and back the same day. She will have 3 seats if anyone wants a lift. Get in touch directly with Jo.
2. BASOC event
Remember the BASOC event on Tuesday 13th June.
Entries will open on Tuesday 23rd May and close on Tuesday 6th June at 23:59.
Remember to enter so that you are guaranteed a map.
There will be a variety of courses, all details are on the website which will be updated regularly.
3. Local events
INVOC have postponed the event they had scheduled for 11th
June at Carse until (probably) after the summer.
MOR and INVOC are hosting the A4 Design & Print Northern Urban League - provisional dates are:

INVOC also have their Schools league in May (open to all though).
4. BASOC outing to Findhorn event
The MOR website has details of the event.
Entries have now opened with the link on the MOR website. Online entries close on Wednesday 17th May with late entries available if maps are also available.
5. BASOC Tuesday=O
Callum has got together great training for us all in May. The Tuesday=O page of the website has the links to the PDF downloads for maps and general meeting instructions / what’s on offer at each session. There is a social gathering after the training on Tuesday 30th May.
6. Board meeting minutes
The minutes of the Board meeting on 3rd April are available.
7. British Sprint and Middle Championship weekend
The BSC and BMC took place in Northern Ireland over the weekend of 6th and 7th May. Janette, Clare and Alice made the trip. Congratulations to Alice who came 2nd in W18, another podium at a major event!
8. Scottish Orienteering Community Conversations
Scottish Orienteering are holding a series of ‘conversations’ online. These conversations have a short presentation followed by discussion. The programme is outlined below, they are free to join, start at 7pm and last about an hour.
